Tax Deadline: 31 July 2018Make sure you don't miss the deadline for personal self-assessment returns and tax payments.
- Submitting overdue personal self-assessment returns for 2016/17
- Paying any balance of your 2016/17 self-assessment tax bill
- Paying the second payment on account of your 2017/18 self-assessment tax bill
If you haven’t submitted your tax return for 2016/17 where the usual deadline of 31 January 2018 applied, HMRC will have already charged penalties. To avoid a further penalty of at least £300 you must submit your tax return no later than 31 July.
If you don’t pay any tax you still owe for your 2016/17 self-assessment on or before 31 July HMRC will charge a penalty equal to 5% of the amount owing. Interest at 3% per annum is already being added.
If you don’t pay the second payment on account of your 2017/18 self-assessment tax bill on or before 31 July HMRC will charge interest at 3% per annum on the unpaid amount.
